About Me

I am a criminal defence barrister based in Wellington. I am able to take instructions to act in courts across the region, including Wellington, Lower Hutt and Porirua.

I understand that being charged with a criminal offence can be incredibly stressful and daunting. I am committed to ensuring that my clients:

  • Feel listened to and supported throughout the process

  • Understand the process and the options available to them

  • Receive the highest standard of advocacy and advice

Experience

I hold a Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours from the University of Otago. I am admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, and have worked in litigation (court work) since my admission to the bar in 2015.

I currently practise as a barrister sole at Quay Legal chambers in Wellington alongside other experienced criminal defence lawyers. I regularly appear for clients charged with a wide range of criminal charges.

I have had a wide range of litigation experience, acting as lead and junior counsel in the District Court, High Court and Family Court, and in various other forums. I have appeared for clients at jury trials, judge alone trials, High Court appeals, bail applications, applications for discharge without conviction, pre-trial hearings, limited licence applications, sentencing, and a variety of other matters.

I also have experience in civil litigation and family law, having appeared as lead counsel in a number of different hearings and alternative dispute resolution forums.

I am a registered legal aid provider (for criminal, civil and family legal aid) as well as a duty lawyer and approved PDLA (Police Detention Legal Assistance) provider. I am also currently a member of a New Zealand Law Society Standards Committee (which considers complaints against lawyers).
